Djordi Komrij

The twirling of hair, caressing of a cheek or the squeezing of a chest. Subtle acts of intimacy that are confined between the four lines of my bathroom mirror.

Anonymity, consent & intimacy guide Komrij his practice. Utilizing painting and sculpting as his tools, Komrij reinterprets memories often relating to the body and its encounters. He approaches his subject up-close and devoid them from their surroundings. A search where commonness and abstraction create space for tenderness and eroticism. Hiding what wants to be seen, choosing safety over vulnerability. Komrij uses photography as his starting point. Using the lens to de-contextualise a scene or object, opening it up for new interpretations. He digs and searches for traces that dwell on his skin, using the body as an archaeological site.
